1982 - Robert N. Shuller establishes firm.
1994 - Following Bob Shuller’s partnership with Robbie Ferris, the firm is incorporated under the name Shuller / Ferris Associates, Architects, PA. The prototype Seventy-First Elementary School No.2 wins the Certificate of Merit award from School Planning.
1994 - Eric Lindstrom and Gordon Johnson become principals and the firm becomes Shuller Ferris Johnson & Lindstrom.
1997 - The firm begins renovation of the 60-year old former Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry Armory building located in downtown Fayetteville to serve as its new home.
1998 - The firm completes renovation and moves in to its new offices at 214 Burgess Street, Fayetteville NC. The firm is awarded a 1998 Exhibition of School Architecture Special Jury Citation from the National School Board Association for the design of Jack Britt High School, Fayetteville NC. The firm also wins a Reginal CRSI Design Award for Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake NC. Additionally, the Cumberland County North Regional Branch Library is awarded Best Newly Constructed Facility by North Carolina Public Library Directors Association (NCPLDA).
1999 - The firm is incorporated as Shuller Ferris Lindstrom & Associates. We opened our Charlotte office. Jack Britt High School is featured in “Designed for Safety” by Sara Hart, Public Risk Magazine Oct ‘99. The firm receives a North Carolina AIA Merit Award for the design of Cumberland County North Regional Library.
2000 - Shuller Ferris Lindstrom & Associates welcomes a sister company, Firstfloor, Inc. Firstfloor is a company specifically designed to provide turnkey project development, including student housing and capital leasing for public schools. (www.firstfloor.biz)
2001- Jack Britt High School wins the Precast Concrete Institute's Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award. The National School Board Association 2001 Exhibition of School Architecture awards the firm another Special Jury Citation for the design of Jack Britt High School, Fayetteville NC.
2003 - Jack Britt High School is awarded Best in Category at the CEFPI-SE Conference (Council of Educational Facility Planners International - Southeast).
2005 - The firm is incorporated as SFL+a Architects, PA. SFL+A Architects is awarded the American Business Ethics Award by the Methodist College Center for Entrepreneurship, sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Fayetteville Festival Park Performance Pavillion is awarded the AIA Triangle Design Merit Award. Overhills High School wins First Place in the New High School Category at CEFPI-SE Architectural Exhibit.
2006 - SFL+a Architects opens its Raleigh office. Robert N. Shuller passes the mantle on firm leadership and Robbie Ferris is elected CEO/President. Jack Britt High School is featured in "Strategies for Developing an Honor School of Excellence", School Planning & Management, Mar '06.
